OSU Medical Center is a premier academic medical institution with more than 1,100 medical staff and 4,200 support staff members providing care for over 33,000 inpatients and 625,000 outpatients every year. With the Dean of the Medical School being the CEO of the Hospital Health System, the academic missions at OSU are facilitated and achieved in an effective and balanced way. In the of "American Best Hospitals," by U.S. News & World Reports, OSU ranks among the best in the country in 13 of 16 reported specialties. Recently, the National Cancer Institution (NCI) has awarded the highest possible score to the OSU Comprehensive Cancer Center during its scientific peer review.
Even with significant and continuous investment in research and education, recruitment of world renowned faculty as well as in physical facilities, advanced technology and equipment (a paradoxical phenomenon currently for academic medical centers), OSU Medical Center continues to have a positive and solid financial status due to a simultaneous increase in public demand for its compassionate, comprehensive and state-of-art patient care. The reimbursement at OSU is among the best when compared to the rest of the academic institutions in the nation.
The Radiology Department has over 45 professional faculty, performs more than 400,000 procedures per year and has training programs for radiology residents, fellows, medical physicists, and technologists. The Department is well equipped with state-of-the-art technology, including high and ultra-high field human MR scanners (3, 7, and 8 Tesla machines), ultra-fast CT, PET/CT, and a PACS system with a 100% filmless environment.
The departmental financial status is strong and the future outlook remains positive. The growth was about 9%, 16%, and is projected 20% for the 2004, 2005, and 2006 academic year respectively. The new leadership of the Department (Chairman Dr. Michael Knopp and Vice Chairman Dr. William Yuh) has the vision and commitment to create a positive environment for the advancement of the faculty's academic career. The department currently has 37 million dollars in federal, state and commercial funding and a world-class imaging laboratory. The collaboration within the College of Medicine and University has been traditionally strong, which provides tremendous career opportunity and a thriving environment for academic radiologists desiring excellence in patient care, teaching, research and funding.
The positions offer a faculty appointment commensurate with previous academic experience and qualifications, along with excellent salary, full and comprehensive benefits, and free tuition reimbursement as well as reduced tuition for family members.
